Description from the seller
Groot Gouds Plateel - Monumental Floor Vase (60 cm) - PZH - 1920 - P.J. van der Want
Description:
An exceptionally rare and monumental antique floor vase from N.V. Koninklijke Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH) from Gouda, crafted in the year 1920. This impressive museum piece measures no less than 60 cm in height and 30 cm in diameter, which was technically a feat to fire without distortion.
The vase is executed in a deep, dark green glossy majolica glaze and around the circumference is completely hand-decorated with a beautiful, polychrome organic floral decoration.
This prestigious piece is fully and clearly documented on the underside with hand-painted marks:
• Factory name: Zuid-Holland, Gouda
• Logo: The iconic Lazarus Gate
• Model number: 175 / 292 (largest version of this form)
• Year mark: 'TV', which stands for production year 1920
• Painter's monogram: 'P', the official master mark of the well-known master painter Petrus Johannes (Piet) van der Want.
Condition:
The vase is visually in a beautiful, display-case-worthy condition with attractive, age-appropriate crazing in the glaze. The color intensity of the painting is excellently preserved.
• Note: On the absolute underside of the stand ring (foot rim) there is a chip/damage (see detail photo). When the vase stands upright, this is hardly noticeable and does not detract from the monumental appearance and historical value of this top piece. No hairlines or further restorations.
Specifications:
• Height: 60 cm
• Diameter: 30 cm
• Weight: Very substantial/heavy
• Origin: Netherlands (Gouda)
• Period: Art Nouveau / Interbellum (1920)
This is a unique opportunity for the serious collector of Dutch decorative earthenware to add an absolute showpiece to the collection.
