Oil-on-canvas painting by Jean-Claude Barthel titled Saint-Malo, 40×40 cm, original contemporary work signed by the artist and dated 2026 from France.
Description from the seller
Oil on canvas, on a stretcher, 40 x 40, unframed.
Jean-Claude Barthel is a self-taught French abstract artist known for his vibrant, elemental paintings inspired by the forces of nature: water, air, earth, and fire. An industrial designer by training, he devoted himself fully to painting in the late 1970s after settling in Auvergne. Barthel’s works, often in oil or acrylic, feature rich textures, layered glazes, and bold gestures that convey energy and emotion. His art seeks to evoke sensations – light, movement, warmth – through color and composition. Widely exhibited in France and across Europe, notably in Paris, Vichy and Vienna, his paintings are held in private collections and represented by several galleries such as ETRU and SIMPARGA. Barthel’s work offers a sensory journey to the heart of nature.

Light, impressions on canvases with painterly texture effects fully express his personality as an artist. He loves water, air, earth, and fire. He builds a world in which he escapes, for the moment of a painting. At the end of the road lies the meeting of the creator and the viewer in a shared desire, the same quest.
