Bronze statue of a Coronated Buddha in gilded and lacquered finish, in the Rattanakosin style from Thailand, 20th century, seated on a stepped throne in the Bhumisparsha mudra, with signs of age and some loss of gilding; dimensions 29 cm high, 19 cm wide, 10 cm deep, provenance from a private collection, in good overall condition, authentic/original.
Description from the seller
Fascinating and ancient bronze statue depicting the Crowned Buddha in regal ceremonial robes, Thailand.
The Buddha is depicted seated on a stepped throne in the sacred Bhumisparsha Mudra (gesture of touching the earth as a witness to enlightenment). The sculpture stands out for its rich ornamental details, visible in both the frontal vestments and the fine floral motifs impressed on the back of the robe.
The work was cast in bronze, originally covered with decorative red lacquer (visible on the base and on the back) and completely finished in gold leaf. The surface shows a splendid patina authentic to the time, with the gilding worn from devotional use that enhances its historical character. On the back of the base there is a small mounting ring and an old collectible paper label.
• Country of origin: Thailand
• Style: Rattanakosin (Bangkok)
• Material: Gilded bronze and lacquered
• Dimensions: Height 29 cm | Width 19 cm | Depth 10 cm
• Condition: Good overall condition consistent with age. Shows wear and losses of surface gilding and minor structural gaps due to time (please view carefully the photos which are an integral part of the description).
