Description from the seller
This oil on canvas painting by the artist Ruben van Veen is an image of the longing for a state of carefree existence. This female figure forever greets life with a smile.
The painting is well and securely packaged and shipped with care.
Ruben van Veen (born 1960) lives and works in the Netherlands and studied drawing and painting at the Volksuniversiteit in Gouda and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. He has been exhibiting since 1992. His work is included in museum and private collections. In 2016, a catalog titled “Ruben van Veen / Drawings, Paintings, Cardboard” appeared, a selection of his work from 1994–2016.
General information:
Ruben van Veen creates drawings, paintings, and works on cardboard in a figurative, intuitive practice in which the subconscious plays an important part in the creative process.
Without a predefined plan, he starts with a piece. Then a human figure always appears again. Usually accompanied by an animal, a fruit, or an everyday object. This combination of images offers a look into a bizarre world. The leading theme in the work is the human being and the complex social relationship people have with one another. It is about desires and fears and it highlights the fine line between seducing and repelling, harmony and conflict, tenderness and struggle.
Not without irony, he attempts to image the riddle of life and is in search of a continually changing ideal of beauty.
