Niccolò Lemery's Dizionario overo Trattato Universale delle Droghe Semplici, an illustrated 1766 edition bound in full parchment and published in Venice by Giuseppe Bertella e Antonio Perlini, with 388 pages and 28 full-page plates on botanical and medicinal topics.
Description from the seller
Binding in full brown parchment boards, still solid. On the spine there are gold ornaments and a gold title in a brown leather panel attached. Blue spray edges.
1 white sheet, xii, 388, [24] likewise full-page plates
The Dictionary or Universal Treatise of Simple Drugs is a historical work of pharmacology and botany written by the French physician and chemist Nicolas Lémery (Rouen, 17 November 1645 – Paris, 19 June 1715) and was conceived as a completion of Lémery's Universal Pharmacopoeia.
It lists names, etymologies, geographical origins, methods of selection and therapeutic properties of drugs, plants, animals and even precious stones.
Fine typographic decoration on the frontispiece, featuring a mark of an ancient private owner (Luigi Castelletti Speziale Varese). Ex Libris and a handwritten note on the flyleaf. Text in two columns. Insignificant worming trace along the inner white margin near the letter C. Issue ii2 slightly loose but still well bound. 28 beautiful full-page plates at the end, each with 16 engraved vignettes depicting plants, animals and precious stones. Sporadic foxing but overall an excellent specimen in good conservation, complete and usable.
