Provenance: Collection of Galerie Marcel Guiot.
Antonia Komisarek (1925–2016) was a French painter of Polish origin, a singular figure of Art Brut and Naive Art, whose unclassifiable work is beginning to be rediscovered on the art market. An entirely self-taught artist, she established herself through her absolute freedom of creation and her deeply rebellious spirit, challenging academic conventions through canvases that reveal subtle influences of cubism and surrealism. Her uniqueness lay notably in the use of recoverable supports as unexpectedly varied as they were, painting with the same fervor on cupboard doors, polystyrene, pieces of furniture boards, Isorel or traditional canvases. Her painting style oscillated with great fluency between naive expressionism and pure abstraction, exploring recurring themes such as bouquets of flowers, landscapes and mysterious characters. Her creations were distinguished by a vibrant palette where joy and spontaneity continually shone through.
