AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pair of antique traditional nut-cutters for areca/betel nut (sarota), dating roughly to the 19th century, from India (Mughal Empire). The objects were used in the social and ceremonial ritual of preparing the "Paan". Large specimen (15.5 cm): Artistic craftsmanship with a finely pierced crest (Jali). The main hinge mandrel features a rosette/open lotus-shaped brass knurled boss. The handle insert is modeled in a zoomorphic style shaped like a parrot’s head with a through eye. There are precious traces of original red pigment (lac/ cinnabar) in the recesses. Small specimen (12.5 cm): Characterized by rich geometric engraving in-tone from chiseling and shallow relief along the edges, with a palmette/three-petal lotus motif. Technical Details: Material: Steel with brass details. Dimensions: Length 15.5 cm and 12.5 cm. Condition: Generally good overall condition consistent with age. They exhibit a beautiful and genuine patina of time with areas of brown oxidation. Solid construction and scissor mechanism still functioning. Shipping Method: Tracked and insured shipping via express courier, with careful and protective packaging.
