Authentic French Lampe Pigeon, standard cylindrical model from the early 20th century. Invented and patented by Charles Pigeon in 1884, these mineral essence safety lamps became very popular for being explosion-proof and economical. Shown at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1900.
This piece is complete and in good condition for its age:
• Metal reservoir (brass or similar alloy) with the original period-appropriate absorbent felt inside, visible.
• Complete burner (bèque) with braided cotton wick still present and functional regulating knob.
• Perforated metal gallery with decorative cutouts.
• Transparent glass globe in bulb shape, in good condition.
• Lateral handle with a slot for hanging, engraved with the famous guarantee: “M. Pigeon offre 10.000 FS garantis au client qui fera exploser une Lampe Pigeon…” (typical of specimens around 1900-1910).
