Format: 32.2 cm x 35.1 cm.
Condition: Good.
Born on 15 October 1921 in Lot-et-Garonne, René Audebès settled in Paris in 1944 to study drawing at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. He then trained under the famous theorist and Cubist painter Jean Metzinger, from whom he became the designated assistant. Marked by the atmosphere of the Occupation, the young artist developed a great graphic talent expressed through a fluid and distinctive line. His multifaceted work deftly navigates between geometric abstraction, stylized figuration, and a surrealism tinged with psychological gravity. Exploring varied supports, he expresses himself as well through oil on paper and panel as through gouache, ink, or wood sculpture. From the 1970s, his style asserts itself through compositions that blend formal rigor with spontaneous gestural expressivity. His creations, often titled Untitled, create a personal visual language populated by modern allegories and cubist figures. Recognized by his peers, he actively participates in numerous group exhibitions of modern art in France and abroad. René Audebès passed away in Paris on 30 September 1993, leaving behind a rich artistic output that is today sought after on the art market.
