Description from the seller
A Pair of Traditional French Linen Tea Towel Sets – Six Pieces with Two Distinctive Designs
This is an appealing lot of six traditional French linen tea towels, comprising two complementary designs, each represented by three pieces. Both designs have their own character, making this a particularly attractive and practical combination.
Originally, each design formed a set of eight towels. However, following careful individual inspection, five towels from each set had to be excluded because of heavy wear and tear. The surviving three pieces from each set have therefore been brought together to create this distinctive lot of six.
The first design features three fine lines running along each side of the towel, with the initials H.R. hand-embroidered on each piece.
The second design is more striking, with two blood-red borders running along each side, providing a lovely traditional contrast against the linen.
Please note a small construction detail: the towels with the two blood-red borders retain their original selvedge on one side, while the opposite side has been finished with a narrow hem. This is worth mentioning as a characteristic of their original manufacture.
Dimensions:
Three towels with three fine lines: 55 x 70 cm
Three towels with blood-red borders: 60 x 76 cm
A charming combination of traditional French linen, understated embroidery and distinctive red detailing, offering both practical use and a glimpse into the everyday textile traditions of the past.
