Waldemar Swarzy - Zwiedzajcie Zoo (Visit the Zoo)

Original vintage poster from 1967 "Zwiedzajcie Zoo" (Visit the Zoo), depicting a hippopotamus, was part of a series drawn by the legendary Polish artist Waldemar Swierzy to promote Warsaw's municipal zoo. Swierzy's zoo posters have become iconic examples of mid-century graphic design, even though they are original editions commissioned by the communist state to promote cultural events, being the only means of expression for artists of the era; a sublime protest against the regime shines through. Printed in a handmade manner, the color tone often varied in intensity. This poster comes from a small gallery in Venice, "Center Posters and Gadgets," closed in 1971, which mainly dealt with posters and pop art. Excellent condition.
