The Stadera is a Roman-origin balance scale based on the principle of levers. It consists of a lever with unequal arms and a fulcrum, which is usually fixed. On the longer arm, which may carry one or more scales (usually 2), slides a weight called a romano; on the shorter arm there may be either a plate or a hook bearing the object or goods to be weighed. For enthusiasts of the genre, a piece that cannot be missing from any collection.
Antique stadera balance scale, with a brass basin welded to tin. Brass weight with the possibility of weighing objects not resting in the basin but hung from the hooks provided. Production period 1920/1949, The Stadera shows punches in several parts as evidence of professional use.
This vintage/antique item may show some signs of wear such as scratches and other signs of aging. Unsubstantial signs of use, darkening due to aging on the iron.
