A 20-piece gypsum Christmas nativity set dating to 1961 by Beeldenfabriek LDV (Martin Linssen & Frans Derkx, Venlo), in good used condition with minor signs of aging, including a rare camel and camel driver.
Description from the seller
This unique, high-quality, and expressive antique whole forms a very complete 20-piece Christmas nativity set and carries a special historical value. All the large figures in the set are marked with 'LDV' '61 on the rear (sheep and angel not), but they nonetheless belong 100% to the set. Family heirloom and therefore known to have been purchased by the grandparents and always used as such. This is evident from the colors.
Martin Linssen & Frans Derkx. VENLO 1919-1962 were the absolute top players in detailed nativity groups and plaster devotion statues. The set is richly complemented with a camel and a camel driver, which is rather unique and sought after.
The figurines stand out for their beautiful deep colors and very expressive and detailed faces.
Sheep are about 6–8 cm, roughly 4–5 cm tall. Animals and human figures are 12–20 cm. The camel is 16 cm high by 16 cm wide in profile (face), with a 6/7 cm pedestal. Baby Jesus in the manger is 10x5 cm.
The set is in a still beautiful, characteristic antique condition. In keeping with the age and the material (plaster), there is occasionally slight, minimal speck damage. Not on the sheep. The angel has a small mark on one wing. See the photos—these are part of the advertisement. They are safely packed for shipment.
Solidly packaged, sent registered and with TT code.
Unique and beautifully rare set. AUTHENTIC. Not a mass-produced item.
