Description from the seller

Julius von Blaas (1845–1922) – Horse Study

Interesting equestrian study by Julius von Blaas (Albano 1845 – Bad Hall 1922), Austrian painter belonging to the famous von Blaas family and particularly known for equestrian subjects.

The work depicts a horse seen in profile, rendered with a concise and immediate painting style, especially attentive to the anatomical structure, the posture and the reflections of the coat. The background, treated with green and brown tones, highlights the animal’s figure and gives the painting the character of a study executed from life.

Technique: oil on canvas

Dimensions of the painting: approximately 32 × 39 cm

Frame: present, gilded

Attribution: Julius von Blaas (1845–1922)

Signature: according to the cataloging, signature stamp on the verso

Provenance: auction of 2021, lot 138-69899/14

Documentation: accompanied by the documentation and the purchase invoice.

On the back there are still labels and numbers referring to the previous sale at auction, in addition to an old stamp on the canvas, elements that contribute to documenting the history and provenance of the work.

The painting appears in its gilded frame, which well matches the historical character of the work. Photographs of the front and back constitute an integral part of the description and allow an assessment of its condition directly.

A work of particular interest for collectors of Austrian painting from the 19th and 20th centuries and of equestrian subjects.
