Description from the seller
Rare and striking vintage men's or unisex wristwatch from the prestigious French haute couture house Pierre Balmain Paris, dating from the early 1970s. This particular piece comes from the iconic Space Age era and immediately stands out for its futuristic, oversized design. Unlike the more common compact women's models, this is the larger and considerably rarer variant with an impressive case width of no less than 40 millimeters, excluding the crown.
The design is characterized by a solid, convex and streamlined case made of chrome-plated or silvered metal that flows seamlessly into the glass, giving the watch its distinctive dome-like appearance. The shiny housing surrounds a beautifully preserved white dial with graceful, deep-black Arabic numerals and the original Pierre Balmain logo. At the back, the watch features a stainless steel back plate with the official engravings Fond Acier Inoxydable and the unique model reference number 15418. The watch is equipped with a supple black leather strap and still has the original metal buckle, into which the authentic, stylized PB logo is finely engraved. The strap itself will need to be replaced.
Technically, this design piece is in excellent condition, as the mechanical hand-winding movement runs well and keeps accurate time after all these years. Aesthetically, the watch is in a fair and characterful vintage state with the inevitable light signs of use and fine scratches on the metal case that suit its age. On the left side of the original plexiglass, there is a small hairline crack, a known aging feature that can be easily replaced by a watchmaker if desired, at low cost. This pristine, statement piece makes a fantastic addition for collectors of seventies design or enthusiasts of classical Parisian fashion history.
