Description from the seller
Miniature reproduction of the World Cup Trophy, made by the historic Bertoni company of Milan, the same Italian manufactory that crafted FIFA’s original trophy based on a design by Gazzaniga.
The miniature faithfully reproduces the famous shape of the cup, with the two human figures supporting the globe and the characteristic helical structure that rises from the base to the summit. The trophy features a gold finish and is mounted on a heavy square dark marble base, traversed by light natural veining.
On the front part of the base is affixed a plaque bearing the logos “INA Assitalia” and the inscription “ITALY ’90”, linking the piece to the 1990 FIFA World Cup held in Italy from June 8 to July 8, 1990. On the back of the base is also present the original label “BERTONI MILANO”, a particularly meaningful element that identifies the manufacturing workshop.
The piece measures about 17 cm in height and 5 cm in width and has a considerable weight of about 833 grams, features that, together with the marble base and the craftsmanship quality, distinguish it from common commercial reproductions of the trophy.
These miniatures were made as commemorative and representing objects, destined for figures connected with the event, including players, staff members, sponsors, and other subjects involved in the celebration.
The 1990 World Cup concluded on July 8 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome with West Germany defeating Argentina 1-0, thanks to a goal converted from a penalty by Andreas Brehme. Italy, the host nation, finished the tournament in third place, with Salvatore Schillaci as the standout player and top scorer of the competition with six goals.
