Description from the seller

Antique Bronze Sculpture: “The Little Pipe Smoker” (Roguish Boy) – circa 1900

Object Description:
For sale is a charming antique cast sculpture (small bronze / spelter) from the turn-of-the-century period (historic Art Nouveau / Belle Époque). The detail-rich figure depicts a standing, sly boy with a soft cap, knee-breeches and distinctive braces, casually tucking his hands into his pockets. Under his left arm he holds a long tobacco pipe (goblet pipe), the bowl facing downward – a very popular humorous genre motif at the time ("Secret Smoker" or "The Little Smoker").

The motif aligns with the famous designs of the well-known German sculptor Julius Paul Schmidt-Felling (1835–1920), who was appreciated for his lifelike depictions of children and workers in everyday settings.

Details & Condition:
• Figure material: Metal casting (bronze or patinated zinc casting / spelter) with a beautiful, age-appropriate brown patina.
• Base: Mounted on a square, deep-black natural stone or marble base.
• Assembly: Fully authentic and preserved in its original condition. On the underside of the base there is the historical fastening with an iron threaded rod, original washer and hex nut.
• Condition: Very good, collectible overall condition with nice patina of age and character. No cracks or major damage to the figure. The marble base shows only minimal, age-appropriate signs.
• Signature: Unstamped / No visible signature (therefore offered “after a design by / in the style of” Schmidt-Felling).
(Tip for you: enter the exact total height in cm and the weight in grams here before listing).

Delivery & Handling:
Shipping is well-padded and securely packaged as a insured parcel with tracking. Pickup is also possible by arrangement.
As this is a private sale, the transaction is conducted without any warranty, guarantee or right of return.
