Title:
Calazans Neto (Brazil, 1932-2006) - Enigma - Unique monotype, 1993
Description:
Unique monotype (1/1) signed in pencil and dated "93" by Calazans Neto, a figure of Bahian modernism. The composition is divided into two spaces facing each other by a green column: on the left, under an arch, a figure with orange hair and arm raised behind the head beside a dark mass suggesting a masculine presence; on the right, a standing female nude under a lattice and wooden structure. Two bodies, two architectures, and a silence between them that justifies the title.
The work reflects Calazans Neto's double condition: painter of bodies and architect by training. Arches, columns, and latticework organize space as in Salvador’s colonial houses, while the gestural brushwork, with brush-stroke traces and irregular margins, preserves the freshness inherent to the monotype. Palette of greens, siennas, and purples characteristic of his nineties work.
Provenance: on the verso is the adhesive of the III Ibero-American Conference, Scientific Conference "Science and Technology for the Sustainable Development of Ibero-America", Salvador (Bahia), July 4–7, 1993.

Title:
Calazans Neto (Brazil, 1932-2006) - Red Winged - Unique monotype, 1993
Description:
Unique monotype (1/1) signed in pencil, titled and dated "93" by Calazans Neto. A standing female nude, in ochres and purples, is cut against a green curtain, next to a large red drapery opening like a sail and a gray feather-like form that recalls a wing. Above, a blind or striped awning closes the space like a balcony or window opened to the exterior.
The vivid red, uncommon in his palette, concentrates all the energy of the sheet and contrasts with the serene body. The image blends the everyday (the blind, the curtain) with the symbolic (the wing, flight), a register typical of Bahian figuration, where the domestic and the mythical coexist without borders. Calazans Neto was a contemporary of Carybé and Mário Cravo, with whom he shared the task of giving visual form to modern Bahia.
Provenance: on the verso is the adhesive of the III Ibero-American Conference, Scientific Conference, Salvador (Bahia), July 4–7, 1993.
Shipped with certificate and good packaging.
