Arland pocket watch, Swiss Made, circa the 1970s, with a 48 mm steel case, manual-wind 17-jewel movement with Incabloc protection, a fumé dial with roman numerals, and a New Old Stock, perfectly working example.
Description from the seller
Splendid and fascinating manual-wind mechanical pocket watch by Arland, dating from the 1970s and preserved in exceptional New Old Stock (back-room stock) condition. The movement has been tested and is perfectly functioning, ready to be collected or worn. An extraordinary piece that blends the precision of Swiss tradition with a bold, decade-typical design.
Dial: A masterclass in contrast
The real strength of this timepiece lies in the dial, characterized by a refined Total Fumé (défumé) effect that fades from a bright silver center to a deep brown-bronze outer ring. On this base, the hours in black applied roman numerals stand out with incredible three-dimensionality on white enamel cartouches outlined in gold. At 6 o'clock sits the auxiliary dial for the small seconds. Old-style black hands complete the scene, ensuring perfect legibility and a solemn aesthetic.
The Case: Gunmetal dark patina finish
The generous 48 mm case (excluding the crown) stands out for its industrial-era gunmetal dark patina, a polished and mirror-like finish. The bas-relief along the edge and on the suspension ring gives the watch great character. The screw-back case back features a wonderful, classic pastoral scene in relief: a farmer guiding a plow drawn by two horses, bathed in the rays of a sun rising behind the mountains.
The Movement: Unblemished Swiss Precision
Inside ticks a robust manual-wind Swiss-made movement with 17 jewels, equipped with the renowned Incabloc shock-protection system on the balance wheel. The mechanism presents itself visually clean and pure. The watch runs regularly.
