Description from the seller
Jinnai Sakata – Sculptural black ceramic bowl – Mashiko pottery – Signed – Japan
Special sculptural bowl by the Japanese ceramic artist Jinnai Sakata, executed in deep black Mashiko pottery. The bowl combines traditional Japanese craftsmanship with a contemporary, almost sculptural form.
The bowl is produced using a high-temperature carbonization firing process, giving the pottery its characteristic deep black color. The surface features Sakata's distinctive Shinjin-mon pattern, a deeply pressed relief that gives the bowl a pronounced texture and unique appearance.
Mashiko pottery originates from Tochigi Prefecture in Japan and is known for its natural look, rich textures, and artisanal character. Sakata provides this traditional ceramic art with a modern, artistic interpretation.
About the artist
Jinnai Sakata studied in 1964 with the renowned Japanese ceramic artist Shoji Kamoda and in 1966 established his own workshop in Mashiko. His work has been exhibited in Japan and internationally.
