Dial and Hands
The vertically brushed silver dial provides a textured and dynamic backdrop, accented by applied indices featuring black inserts for high legibility. Crisp black stick hands remain well preserved with no significant degradation. The dial overall is attractive with visible edge wear, specifically showing visible spotting and staining along the bottom edge near the six o'clock position.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a cushion or tonneau-shaped profile typical of 1970s design, utilizing an integrated case architecture without a distinct bezel. The brushed top surfaces transition to polished flanks, displaying honest wear. Light scratches and handling marks consistent with age are present, though the case retains its shape with no major dents or deep gouges. The watch is fitted with a knurled crown signed with the Omega logo. The flat acrylic crystal is clear, with no major scratches or crazing visible.
Movement
Powering the watch is the Omega Caliber 1002, an automatic movement featuring 20 jewels and a high-beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement displays a copper-colored finish and maintains a clean appearance with its rotor intact. Engravings for Omega Watch Co Swiss, the 1002 caliber designation, and the serial number are clearly present. It records +8+10s/day on the timegrapher. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed bracelet in a stainless steel mesh construction. This well preserved original shows minimal distortion and secures via a signed folding clasp. The endlinks are marked 596. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of up to 20 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The vertically brushed silver dial remains visually striking while showing honest visible spotting and staining along the bottom edge near six o'clock. The tonneau case displays light scratches and handling marks consistent with age, but no major dents or deep gouges. The original stainless steel mesh bracelet is highly preserved with minimal distortion, and the acrylic crystal is clear. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 32 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Omega De Ville appeals through its strong 1970s character, defined by the tonneau case profile and the excellently preserved original signed mesh bracelet. The presence of the high-beat automatic Caliber 1002 further strengthens its mechanical appeal, making it a highly wearable and distinctive vintage reference.
History
The Omega De Ville line emerged as a standalone collection in the late 1960s, representing the brand's more elegant, design-forward offerings separate from the Seamaster family. The reference 162045 embodies the design shifts of the 1970s, moving toward cushion and tonneau-shaped case profiles that defined the decade. Inside, the watch utilizes the Caliber 1002, an automatic movement introduced during this period that featured a faster beat rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This combination of distinctive case geometry and advanced high-beat mechanics provides an authentic window into Omega's technical and stylistic approach during the early 1970s.
