Now available at auction from Second Vintage
This classic Omega Seamaster De Ville configuration centers around an exceptionally clean silver sunburst dial that catches the light beautifully. Housed in the signature front-loading unishell case, this example retains a strong vintage presence, highlighted by its crisp dial typography and original applied gold-tone details.
Brand: Omega
Model: Seamaster De Ville
Movement: Mechanical
Dial: Silver sunburst with applied gold-tone indices
Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Gold-tone, stainless steel caseback
Production Year: 1960s
Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: -3-6s/day, performing remarkably well.
Dial and Hands
The dial is exceptionally clean and attractive, defined by a strong silver sunburst effect that remains beautifully preserved. Applied gold-tone indices and the matching Omega logo feature black inserts that provide excellent contrast against the bright dial, while all printed text, including the distinctive 'T SWISS MADE T' signature, remains crisp and intact. Small luminous plots are present at the outer edges of the hour markers. The original gold-tone baton hands, also detailed with black inserts, show noticeable age-related oxidation, spotting, and dirt across their surfaces, adding honest vintage character to the display.
Case and Crystal
The 34 mm gold-tone front-loading unishell case retains good overall geometry, presenting honest wear consistent with its age. Moderate scratches and handling marks are visible along the case flanks, lugs, and the integrated gold-tone bezel. The stainless steel caseback displays scratches alongside some localized pitting and wear, yet it still bears a crisp Seamaster hippocampus engraving in the center. The watch is fitted with a domed acrylic crystal that remains generally clear, showing only minor surface scratches when viewed under direct light. A gold-tone knurled crown, clearly signed with the Omega logo in relief, completes the classic profile.
Movement
Secured within the front-loading case is the mechanical movement. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. The timegrapher records a strong rate of -3-6s/day.
Strap
The watch is paired with a dark brown leather strap featuring contrast stitching. The strap appears lightly used and presents very well, securing comfortably on the wrist.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The watch presents an exceptionally clean dial with a vibrant sunburst finish, contrasted by noticeable oxidation and spotting on the original hands. The gold-tone case and stainless steel caseback show moderate scratches, handling marks, and localized pitting on the reverse, reflecting honest use while maintaining good structural geometry. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the movement is performing very strongly.
Dimensions
The case measures 34 mm in diameter, excluding the crown.
Remarks
This Seamaster De Ville offers a highly attractive dial that has survived the decades in wonderful condition. The combination of the crisp sunburst finish, the signed crown, and the distinct hippocampus caseback engraving makes this a thoroughly enjoyable vintage Omega for daily wear or dedicated collecting.
History
Omega introduced the De Ville in 1960 to serve as an elegant, dressier alternative within the broader Seamaster family. Characterized by its slim profile, the Seamaster De Ville quickly became a popular choice among enthusiasts seeking a refined aesthetic. By 1963, Omega began printing the 'De Ville' name directly on the dials of these models, cementing its identity. Today, this classic Omega Seamaster De Ville configuration remains appreciated for its balanced mid-century design and enduring style.
