Its applied gold-tone indices, Rado anchor logo, and seahorse emblem remain fully intact, complemented by crisp printing with no significant spotting or damage visible. A distinctive red date numerals display sits neatly at three o'clock. The original gold-tone dauphine hands show light, age-appropriate patina, with minor oxidation and surface spotting visible under magnification.
Case and Crystal
The gold-tone case features a smooth integrated bezel and is fitted with a stainless steel caseback displaying clear engravings. It shows honest wear consistent with age, exhibiting significant plating wear and distinct brassing, particularly on the lug edges, lug tips, and bezel area. Moderate scratches and handling marks are present throughout the case flanks. The signed Rado anchor crown displays visible plating wear on its knurled edges. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, showing light surface scratches and scuffs.
Movement
Powering the watch is an automatic movement featuring a signed rotor, with visible engravings reading RADO GOLDEN HORSE, THIRTY 30 JEWELS, and SWISS (SW). The caliber appears generally clean, showing minor surface marks on the rotor and plates. Performing well within expected vintage tolerances; running strong and steady. The movement was serviced on 16 October 2026.
Strap
The timepiece is fitted with a brown leather strap featuring contrast stitching, which appears to be in lightly used condition.
Condition
Good vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 16 October 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is running strong and steady. The dial is exceptionally clean and well-preserved. The case displays honest age-related wear, with significant plating loss and brassing noted on the lug edges and bezel, alongside moderate scratches on the flanks. The crystal and original hands show light, age-appropriate wear.
Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
The well-preserved silver sunburst dial, the character of the red date display, and the serviced 30-jewel automatic movement make this a charming example of Rado's mid-century design.
History
Introduced in the late 1950s, the Golden Horse was one of Rado's first major successes and helped establish the brand's early reputation. A notable feature of this era is the signature rotating anchor logo on the dial, which was originally intended to indicate the need for a service when it stopped moving freely.
