One copy of Problemata Aristotelis cum cometo by Aristotele, in Latin (original language), bound in full parchment with gilding, Paris, Jehan Petit, 284 pages, 29.5 × 22 cm, dating to circa 1520, in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Binding in full stiff parchment with gold tooling on the spine and title, date, place and manuscript monogram. Red edges.
1 white leaf, [24], 284, 1 white leaf
The Problemata (or Problemi) are a vast and famous encyclopedic collection of scientific, philosophical and medical questions organized in questions and answers. Although traditionally attributed to Aristotle, scholars agree that the work was compiled by the Peripatetic school between antiquity and the 6th century A.D., combining elements from different eras. The work is considered a pillar of the history of thought for its method of inquiry, and it has been a fundamental reference throughout the Middle Ages and beyond, thanks also to the commentaries of famous scholars like Pietro d'Abano.
Beautiful two-color frontispiece engraved on a full page with a handwritten note by an ancient hand in the upper margin. Double ex-libris applied to the flyleaf. Numerous decorated initials. Restorations in the lower corner of the last 6 sheets. Moreover, an excellent copy: very clean, usable and complete.
Rare.
