Description from the seller
Oil on canvas titled 'Nude Woman Sitting' signed
Jylian Gustlin (born 1981)
Jylian Gustlin is an American contemporary painter whose work uniquely fuses figurative art, mathematics, and digital technologies. Born in 1981 in California, she grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, at the heart of the Silicon Valley tech boom. The daughter of an IBM computer scientist and a mother who was an artist, she was immersed in this dual world of science and creativity from childhood.
Education and career in tech
Drawn to the sciences, she began higher studies in computer science and mathematics at San Jose State University. However, driven by the need to create, she left the program only one semester before graduation to devote herself full-time to the fine arts. She then joined the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, from which she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in design and fine arts.
With her hybrid skills, she was recruited by Apple Computer, Inc., where she worked for 12 years as a graphics programmer and art director. She eventually left the company to devote herself full-time to painting.
