Alexis Auguste Delahogue (1867–1953) is a French landscape painter and Orientalist, mainly recognized for his luminous depictions of North Africa

1. A twin vocation

Born on July 6, 1867 in Soissons, Alexis Auguste shares his life and his passion with his twin brother, Eugène Jules Delahogue (1867-1935), also a painter. The two brothers nearly entirely fuse their artistic paths, traveling together and regularly exhibiting side by side.

2. The journey to the Maghreb and Algeria

Strongly influenced by the post-Impressionist current, the twins travel extensively through the Maghreb, and more particularly Algeria. They explore the country from Algiers to Constantine, pushing to the desert gates at El Kantara and Biskra.
Although they travel together, they subtly share the themes:
• Eugène is more drawn to the bustle of the souks and the encampments in the oases

• Alexis Auguste concentrates more on caravan scenes, the camel caravans, and the static figures integrated into the landscape.
