Description from the seller
Sculpted Icon of Elegance: Lot of 6 Platner Armchairs – Warren Platner Design – Original Knoll Production
We present at auction a lot of exceptional rarity and prestige for the dining area or executive meeting rooms: a set of six chairs from the famous Platner Collection, conceived in 1966 by American architect Warren Platner for Knoll International. This ensemble is distinguished by its extraordinary hand-shaped steel rod structure and refined charcoal melange fabric upholstery, ideal for high-profile environments.
Design and History: The Industrial Steel Smoothed into Sculpture
Born in 1966, the Platner collection represents one of the most ambitious engineering and formal challenges in the history of industrial design:
Constructive Complexity: Platner personally designed the intricate welding and forming techniques required to realize the seat. Each chair consists of more than a hundred bent steel rods joined at over a thousand weld points, creating a chalice-like grid of extraordinary visual harmony.
Expression of “Warm Modernism”: Departing from the strict and cold geometric minimalism of the era, Platner intentionally sought forms that were decorative, gentle and graceful, capable of reflecting light and offering an organic, enveloping shell.
Lot Conditions: Exceptional Condition (As New – Exhibition Only)
This specific set comes exclusively from an exhibition display and has been used only for show, effectively presenting in near-new condition:
Steel Structures: The wireframe steel cages are perfect and untouched, stable, with no scratches, deformations or oxidation bloom.
Upholstery and Comfort: The inner padding retains the factory-original compactness and ergonomic response. The sand-toned technical melange fabric is as-new, completely free of stains, halos, fraying, or signs of wear.
Authenticity Certification: The originality and manufacturing conformity of the entire lot are rigorously guaranteed by the Knoll-branded seat covers on each chair.
