Description from the seller
Lisa Monna - 03 (n.759) - Dolls series
The measurements are:
- collage: 50.00 cm x 40.00 cm
Acrylic painting on shredded paper on canvas
I create paintings using acrylic colors and thousands of small recycled paper pieces: everyday paper is transformed into art instead of ending up in the rubbish.

It is not the Mona Lisa... it is the Lisa Monna as the figure is inverted compared to the original.
This work represents a conceptual evolution of the artistic project "Not your doll", a series born to explore and denounce the objectification of women and gender violence.
Through a meticulous mosaic made entirely with fragments of recovered everyday paper reused to create art, the icons of art history are deconstructed and reassembled.
Iconic figures, images of women observed and idealized, are here stripped of their aura of passive perfection.
Historically, the figure of the woman in art has often been reduced to a silent muse, a "doll" of aesthetic perfection shaped to please others’ gaze.
With these works they stop being the Renaissance "dolls" to be admired and become living figures, literally rebuilt with fragments of everyday reality, of news and everyday words.
No longer objects of others’ gaze, but fragmented and powerful presences that invite the viewer to look beyond the surface of beauty.
A piece with a very strong visual and social impact, ideal for a contemporary collection attentive to themes related to the role and image of women in society.

Each piece is securely packaged, wrapped and protected for shipment and will arrive in a completely safe package, including the Certificate of Authenticity.
I use the courier provided directly by Catawiki.
A few days of delay may be caused by customs clearance at borders.
Shipping takes about 7 days; about 10 days for non-EU countries.
A tracking number is provided for the shipment.
Different light sources can give different colors to the photos.
In the case of works that I frame directly myself, dimensions may vary slightly as I personally prepare the wooden frame, stretch the canvas and mount it on the frame.

Thank you.
Important notice for international buyers (non-EU):

Born in 1974 I am self-taught.
After an initial period devoted to sculpture there was a long hiatus lasting almost twenty years. Since December 2014 I resumed with the "two dimensions" for reasons of time and space, leaving sculpture aside and dedicating myself to acrylic paintings.
I love painting abstract landscapes but recently I have been pushing myself to paint faces of people both imaginary and real.
For me painting is "freezing time" in that exact moment; a painting of mine is often a faded memory and therefore my works are "worn, eroded by time". Sometimes the subjects of my paintings are stretches of walls also eroded by time, with moss and mushrooms that—in time—grow on the surface.
Time, which passes relentlessly, is the main theme of my works.
Coming from a wonderful experience with clay manipulation, I love sculpture, the third dimension, the sense of touch and my paintings are often characterized by reliefs clearly perceptible to touch and to the naked eye.
In recent times, after several years in which my works were made from little bits of recycled paper forming figures, I am pushing myself to explore Optical Art where I use painted wood discs arranged in lines and grids repeated with mathematical rigor that seen up close seem to form a colorful abstract painting, but the more you move away the more a portrait formed by many painted wood discs emerges.
Violence against women is a theme that characterizes almost all of my works when I reproduce female faces, precisely to give them a voice when they do not have the strength or courage to report that they are not their partner’s dolls and should not be maltreated or, worse, victims of violence.
