Three-volume set of Oswald Spengler's Der Untergang des Abendlandes in German, published in the early 1920s by C.H. Becksche Verlagsbuchhandlung, with hard covers and about 1400 pages across the volumes.
Description from the seller
Remarkably beautiful and fully complete 3-volume set of the monumental cultural-philosophical masterpiece "Der Untergang des Abendlandes" by the German philosopher Oswald Spengler.
This concerns the early, sought-after editions from the 1920s, published by the renowned C.H. Beck’sche Verlagsbuchhandlung in Munich. What makes this set unique is that, in addition to Part 1 and Part 2, the then separately issued (and now rare) index part (Namen- und Sachverzeichnis) is also present.
The set consists of:
• Part 1: First Volume - Gestalt und Wirklichkeit (Edition: 1923, 33rd–47th completely redesigned edition).
• Part 2: Second Volume - Welt-Historische Perspektiven (Edition: 1922, 16th–30th edition).
• Part 3: Namen- und Sachverzeichnis (Edition: 1923, accompanying index for both volumes).
Specifications & Condition:
• Language: German (Fraktur / Gothic typeface)
• Binding: Original half-cloth/paper boards with the authentic geometric border design and the bookseller stamp 'Jost' on the cover.
• Condition: In good, sturdy antiquarian condition. The bindings show the light, characteristic signs of aging and patina appropriate for books over 100 years old. The text blocks are solid. The index volume contains a neat, handwritten owner’s name from that period on the title page.
A beautiful, historically valuable set for the serious collector, philosopher, or enthusiast of historical key texts.
