Description from the seller

Georgii Adami Struvii, uff Uhlstedt, ICti, &c. Criminal Dissertations XVI. Once proposed in the public scholarly disquisition at the Salana Academy, now revised and enriched with rarer responses and counsels, at the end added is also an Index of Things & Words.
Jena, at the expense of Christian Kirchner, citizen & bookseller of Lipsia, printed by Johann Nisius, (1671).

Contemporary leather binding in faded parchment (about 20 × 16 cm), back with the old handwritten title on the nervi «STRU. Dissert. Crimin.» and on the front cut a purely manuscript «Stru. de Crimin.». Pp. (4), 323, (16); the first blank leaf is missing. The entire work heavily browned, with signs of wear (traces) especially on the final leaves; binding a little warped.

Contents
A collection of sixteen dissertations on criminal law discussed under the presidency of Georg Adam Struve (1619-1692) at the University of Jena (Academia Salana). The 1671 edition is the expanded revision of the first printing of 1658: the author added rarer responses and counsels and a rich Index Rerum & Verborum.

The dissertations treat, among other topics:
• De delictis in genere (and especially conatus, the accusation and the inquisitio);
• De crimine læsæ majestatis;
• De stupro & adulterio;
• De homicidio;
• De crimine falsi;
• De degradatione & suspensione laicorum & clericorum;
• as well as paralipomena and practical cases (including examples of procedures with torture and sentences of the Scabinato of Jena).

The work closes with the analytical index and the typographic motto «Soli Deo Gloria» / «Finis».

Importance and rarity
Georg Adam Struve was one of the greatest German jurists of the 17th century, professor at Jena and a central figure of the Usus modernus pandectarum. While his Jurisprudentia Romano-Germanica forensis (the so-called «little Struve») became the most widespread institutional manual for over a century, the Dissertationes Criminales constitute one of his most significant collections of practical and scholastic criminal law.

The 1671 edition, revised and enriched compared with 1658, is much less common than the latter (of which public digitizations exist). It is a sought-after item for scholars of the history of criminal law, of university history, and of 17th-century legal bibliography.

A complete specimen in text (except the first blank), in period binding, with the typical signs of use and time of a 17th-century study volume, yet still solid and fully legible.

Ideal for collectors of ancient law, German university history, and 17th-century parchment bindings.
