AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Bronze figure of a child Krishna – India, second half of the 18th century

Small Indian bronze sculpture depicting Krishna in his infant manifestation (Bala Krishna), shown in a lively, dynamic posture, with the body projected forward, one leg extended backward and the right hand engaged in supporting a spherical object, interpretable as a ball of butter (makhan), traditional attribute of the deity. The figure features a child’s face with stylized features, hair gathered into a small topknot, dangling earrings, necklaces and ornaments on the arms and ankles, as well as a short drapery around the hips. The iconography recalls episodes from Krishna’s childhood, particularly venerated within bhakti devotion, in which the divine nature manifests through spontaneous and playful gestures. Lost-wax casting, with plastic modeling and finely chased details, attributable to the bronze tradition of southern India.
India, second half of the 18th century,
Good overall condition, with natural patina, widespread surface wear and traces of ancient handling coherent with the period.
