Description from the seller
Rare post-incunabulum
“Clavis Theologie”, Petrus Keschinger 1502.
Very rare theological early print from Basel’s workshop of Nicolaus Kessler.
First edition of the alphabetically organized theological repertory to the Summa of the significant Franciscan scholastic Alexander of Hales (c. 1185–1245).
The book is in used condition.
The pages show continuous water stains, with occasional light worm traces in places.
The first pages have a few small worm holes. Afterwards there are worm traces in the upper portion, reaching up to about halfway through the book, entirely outside the text.
Further back there are occasionally somewhat stronger worm traces, partly with some loss of characters.
From time to time there are light worm traces outside the text, especially at the beginning and at the end.
Leaves H2 to H8 show creases and folds in the central margin area. Occasional slight gaps, but all outside the text.
The last few leaves are somewhat more flecked.
The title page is loose. A few pages cling together occasionally.
Bound in a contemporary wooden board binding with leather cover, this is somewhat dusty.
The spine is brittle and there are several worm traces. The front board has a small flaw at the upper corner.
Collation: 260 leaves
Measurements: 22 x 16 cm
