Jean-Paul Jacques Favre de Thierrens, born in 1895 in Nîmes and died in 1973 in Paris, is a French painter with an extraordinary life. Before fully embracing his artistic career, he distinguished himself as a flying ace during World War I, then as a secret agent during World War II. This adventurous life indirectly nourishes his artistic sensibility, which he develops mainly after his military engagements. A figurative painter, he devotes himself with passion to the landscapes of the South, subtle still lifes and intimate portraits. His works, imbued with the light of the South of France, capture the sweetness and simplicity of everyday life. Mastery of technique and delicate brushwork characterize his oils on canvas and on panel. A monograph as well as a catalogue raisonné have been published to document the entirety of his artistic work.
