Description from the seller

The work was displayed at the sixth Contemporary Art Exhibition “CORTONA IN ARTE,” held in Cortona (Arezzo) from September 19 to October 4, 2026, and is published in the exhibition catalog.
Fratture in rete presents a female figure in the act of directing a smartphone toward herself. The body alternates between light surfaces and a dark, perforated structure: the figure interrupts, lets the void emerge, and recomposes itself in space.
The daily gesture of the digital self-portrait thus takes on a sculptural dimension. The phone becomes the focal point of a reflection on the image of oneself, on identity, and on the relationship between what we show and what remains hidden. The “net” evoked by the title can be read both in the body’s weave and in the virtual space in which our image is shared.
The sculpture does not merely represent: it withholds, consumes, reveals. It is a presence born from emptiness and matter, from fragment and reconstruction, transforming the work into a living trace of an evolving thought.
The contrast between surfaces, together with the alternation of fullness and voids, invites viewing the work from multiple perspectives, uncovering the constant changing relationship between figure and structure.
The glossy finish highlights the colors and follows the anatomical twists of the body, creating different reflections depending on the light and making the sculpture particularly scenographic even in contemporary and minimalist settings.
Artwork coming directly from the artist’s studio.

Artist biography

Angelo Scardino (Grottaglie, 1986) is a sculptor and professor of Plastic and Sculptural Disciplines. After training at the Artistic High School “Lisippo” in Manduria, he earned his undergraduate and graduate diplomas in Sculpture at the Lecce Academy of Fine Arts, both with the grade of 110 with honors.
His research unites traditional sculpture, digital design, and 3D printing, exploring the relationship between figure, matter, and space. Through the dialogue between fullness and emptiness, fragmentation and reconstruction, he addresses themes of identity, memory, and transformations of contemporary society, with references to pop culture.
In 2025 he was selected as a finalist for the Arte Award, promoted by the Arte magazine of Cairo Editore, and he received the Michelangelo Prize. Among recent solo and group exhibitions, there are “Tune In,” within Paratissima Torino 2024; “Unpredictable–Untitled,” at Paratissima 2025 in Moncalieri; and the sixth edition of “Cortona in Arte,” in 2026.
Alongside his individual path, he collaborates with Cinzia Ascari in the artistic duo A_SCAR, whose research focuses on the relationship between nature, matter, and memory. In 2026 the duo received the MG Award for sculpture at the Arte Prize with the work Custodi invisibili, which will be exhibited at the Museum of Permanente in Milan from October 13 to 18, 2026.
