Description from the seller
Greek icon depicting Christ Pantocrator, produced according to the Byzantine iconographic tradition.
Christ is represented frontally, with the right hand blessing and the left hand holding the Gospel book.
The work features a gold background and a refined decoration inspired by the tradition of the Macedonian school of Mount Athos (Agion Oros), in Greece.
On the back there is a certificate of authenticity in Greek and English, which describes the icon as a handmade artisanal work produced according to the criteria of the iconographic tradition, using egg tempera and powdered pigments.
There is also a label bearing the inscription «24K», referring to gold plating, whose composition has not been verified.
The icon comes from a private collection and was given as a gift.
The work presents itself in overall excellent condition, with the painted surface well preserved. A slight sign of superficial wear on the golden background is noted, in the upper left part, visible in the photographs, and a very small wooden chip on the side edge, which does not affect the frontal painted surface.
The certificate on the back accompanies the work and documents the declared characteristics.
An devotional icon, expression of the artistic and spiritual tradition of Eastern Christianity.
