Short description
This impressive portrait of the German artist Roland Frey (1927–2012) captivates with its deep psychological aura and the masterful, almost sculptural handling of the color layers. Frey uses a mix of fine brushstrokes in the facial area and a coarse, impasto application in the background and on the clothing, which gives the painting a special dynamism. The cool blue palette in the background contrasts strongly with the warm flesh tones of the face and the bold red in the lower area, drawing the viewer’s gaze immediately to the visage of the portrayed woman.
A typical work for collectors of German post-war art, convincing through its texture and timeless representation.
