Original 1990 Argentina national team charity and friendlies shirt designed by Oscar Tubio for Diego Maradona, in very good condition, branded El Jardin de Oscar.
Description from the seller
This model was designed by Oscar Tubio, a designer of iconic T-shirts in Argentina. This design was proposed for use in the 1990 World Cup, but Julio Grondona rejected it for political reasons, among others.
Tubío came up with the idea after a private talk with Diego Maradona. The 'Diez' wanted a shirt like this because he was tired of Europeans derisively calling South Americans 'sudacas'; his wish was to rub the Argentine flag in their faces.
To this was added the inflexible stance of coach Carlos Salvador Bilardo, who, out of pure superstition (and commercial loyalty), did not want to touch under any circumstances the traditional striped design with which they had come out world champions in Mexico '86. There were also cross financial disputes over royalty payments for the design.
It's a brilliant jersey
The design broke with the traditional light-blue-and-white vertical stripes to replicate the Argentine flag exactly, crossed horizontally and proudly displaying the Sun of May in the center.
Although it was never used in an official match, the jersey became legendary for two iconic appearances in the nineties:
• Charly García wore it live when he presented his version of the National Anthem, and Diego himself ended up wearing it in a benefit match in '94 and in a friendly with friends
A total stroke of genius that went down in history!
Original jersey very hard to obtain nowadays !!!
