Description from the seller
Letizia Bertaggia (born 2001) is an Italian-Dominican visual artist. Having taken up drawing since childhood thanks to her paternal grandmother's influence, she found painting to be a visceral and indispensable form of expression. At eighteen, the diagnosis of bipolar and borderline personality disorders and the concurrent discovery of Gothic subculture and metal marked a fundamental turning point in her life and in her artistic research. The dark aesthetics and metal sounds offered her a refuge and a language with which to give shape and color to the complexities of the mind, transforming painting into a tool of salvation, catharsis, and deep inner exploration.
oil painting on canvas about mental illnesses especially bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder I also treat eating disorders using the body and how the mind reflects on it
This striking oil painting on canvas delves into the profound complexities of mental health, offering a contemplative exploration of conditions such as bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders. The artist masterfully uses the human form as a vehicle to express how the mind's struggles are physically manifested, creating a deeply evocative portrait. The interplay of black and white tones, reminiscent of a skeleton, adds a powerful layer of symbolism, touching upon themes of mortality and the fragility of well-being.
Rendered with rich oil paints on a durable canvas, this contemporary piece showcases the artist's skilled hand in capturing nuanced emotional states. The subject matter, the body, becomes a canvas itself, reflecting internal battles and the journey towards healing. This artwork invites viewers to ponder the intricate connection between our physical and mental states, fostering a sense
