About the artist:
Born in Nantes, Kafé Korsé has always loved drawing. His heart beats for it. He began drawing on large formats in high school, thanks to a meeting. Before expressing himself in his works, he always starts with drawing as a progressive foundation, which allows room for error and experimentation. His inspiration comes from everything that was done in drawing, characters and mangas – from DMV (highly detailed characters), graffiti with messages, to lettering from social networks. The people who have motivated him include Reso, Persu. But also Magritte, Dali, Escher (a genius of engraving, trompe l’œil, mise en abyme, infinity).
He has been painting for 13 years; for 3 or 4 years he has been seeking new things, to break habits, go further than what he knows how to do. Inspiration from something other than graffiti: film, travel, people’s lives, culture, meetings… Even a simple light can fascinate him. He seeks contrasts: blur/sharp, past/present…
In permanent search, not seeking aesthetics or to please. Spontaneity.
He loves poetry and humor: Coluche, Desproges, Brassens… Humor to give a sense of freedom and naivety. Like a child. Break the pragmatism that the adult in him has. A poorly built cardboard airplane, with a pilot wearing a Formula 1 helmet, not a beautiful plane that flies.
His works tell things, carry a message…
Over-connectivity wears him out, people forget to look around them. His messages are often politicized, against a society of overconsumption/pollution.
About the artwork:
This composition with tangled elements reflects the daily life everyone experiences in the metro. Thus animals could lend a metaphorical meaning to 'the race against time.'
Inspiration comes from metro rides and train stations. The idea is to offer a wry critique of everyday reality.
