Description from the seller
Beautiful pair of antique Japanese brass bowls – Meiji period (1868-1912)
A particularly decorative pair of antique Japanese bowls from the Meiji period, made of brass and richly adorned with refined relief decorations. Both bowls feature a beautiful depiction of four Buddhist figures in traditional robes, surrounded by graceful floral motifs.
The central scenes are elaborately detailed and are framed by a lush composition of chrysanthemums and other flowers. The openwork outer rims consist of gracefully interwoven loops, giving the bowls an elegant and airy appearance. The alternation of gold-toned and dark patinated surfaces creates a wonderful sense of depth and highlights the fine relief work.
Both pieces have developed a splendid, authentic patina over the years, with localized green oxidation and warm copper-brown discolorations. These natural signs of aging underscore their historical character and lend the bowls a special charm.
A beautifully matching pair of Japanese art objects, ideal as decorative bowls, collectibles, or stylish eye-catchers in an interior with a fondness for antiques and Eastern art.
