An expressive seascape with a glowing evening sky in ochre, green and gray above a calm sea, against which two dark sailing boats silhouette against the horizon. The loose, paste-like brushwork and the muted, earthy color palette are characteristic of the early oeuvre of the Flemish expressionist, known for his powerful interpretations of the Flemish coast.

Een expressieve marine met een gloeiende avondlucht in oker, groen en grijs boven een kalme zee, waartegen twee donkere zeilscheepjes silhouetteren tegen de horizon. De losse, pastueuze penseelvoering en het gedempte, aardse kleurenpalet zijn kenmerkend voor het vroege oeuvre van de Vlaamse expressionist, die bekendstaat om zijn krachtige interpretaties van de Vlaamse kust.
