Description from the seller
René Bosiers (1875–1927), attributed to – Impressionist landscape with hayricks – Signed R. Bosiers
Particularly expressive landscape, signed R. Bosiers in red paint, with a powerful brushwork and a rich, nuanced color palette.
The painting depicts a rural scene with hayricks, rendered in warm ocher, golden, green, and soft pink tones, against a backdrop of bright blue.
The composition is built up from short, energetic brushstrokes and locally thickly applied layers of paint. The texture of the paint is emphatically present and gives the work an almost tangible quality. Light, color, and movement take precedence over a meticulous rendering of details.
The painting technique aligns with the Belgian Impressionist and Post-Impressionist landscape tradition of the early 20th century.
The work bears the clearly legible signature R. Bosiers in the lower right, executed in red paint.
On the reverse there is also an old handwritten note bearing the name René Bosiers and a partially legible reference to a location or subject. This historical annotation is an interesting supplementary element to the attribution and is clearly depicted in the photographs.
René Bosiers (1875–1927) was a Belgian painter active around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. His oeuvre includes landscapes and cityscapes, among other works.
The painting is housed in a decorative wooden frame with a gilt finish and a relief edge. The warm patina of the frame complements the color palette of the work well.
