Sculpture, Jüngling mit Siegerbinde“ (auch bekannt als Diadumenos) - 35 cm - Patinated bronze

For sale is an aesthetically refined bronze sculpture titled 'The Youth with the Victory Band' (also known as the Diadumenos). The sculpture is based on the famous ancient masterwork by the Greek sculptor Polykleitos from the 5th century BC. It depicts an athletic, youthful victor of the ancient games tying the victory band (the diadem) around his head after the competition. The representation is regarded in art history as a paradigmatic example of contrapposto (the harmonious interplay of the standing and weight-bearing leg) and the ideal human proportions. This highly detailed execution is notable for the fine rendering of musculature and hair, as well as the classical patina.
