Nicole Gilles, author/illustrator, Annales & Croniques de France is a French-language two-part Bebilderte Ausgabe from 1553 on the history and chronicles of the French kings, in a 500-page, 33 × 23 cm bound edition with restoration notes.
Description from the seller
“Annales & Croniques de France” 1553.
Rare edition about the history and chronicles of the French kings in 2 parts.
With woodcut title border and some, partly repeated portraits and small woodcuts as well as some large woodcuts and genealogies.
The first 5 leaves show signs of restoration and some light additions.
The title page has supplemented gaps, with slight loss of the border.
With text loss on the back of the title page, the missing text was added by hand afterward.
Leaves 17-41 have a continuous medium-sized stain at the bottom, which on leaf 30 causes a slight defect, with some text loss.
At the beginning the pages have some stains.
Further back there are some margin stains, as well as at the very end partly larger continuous stains.
The last page bears some restorations and additions as well as small light defects with missing text, which was handwritten in.
The second title page has been rebound.
The title page of the second part was bound incorrectly after the first title page at the beginning. Moreover leaf 12 of the second part was bound incorrectly.
Bound in a half-leather binding from the 19th century with gilding on the spine. It is slightly rubbed and the lower edges are a bit bumped.
Collation: 7 (instead of 6) leaves, CXXX numbered leaves, 1 leaf, 1 leaf (leaf 12 of the 2nd part), 4 leaves (instead of 5 due to the incorrectly bound second title page), CXXXXVIII numbered leaves (instead of CIL due to incorrectly bound leaf 12)
Dimensions: 33 x 22 cm
