AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Offered at NO RESERVE PRICE from an EUROPEAN seller, so no 21% import taxes, if you are an European buyer:

A collectable steel and 18k gold Rolex men's wristwatch with manual winding and original tessellated / honeycomb dial, model Oysterdate Precision, ref. 6294.
This rare reference 6294 was only produced in a very short timeframe in the early 50'ties (1953/1954) and the gold/steel models are much rarer than the steel ones. (See photo of Ai text)
(Searching the Internet we only found a fully steel 6294 model, that was for sale. See photo)
It makes this Rolex model sought after and a true collectors item.
Watch is not polished by us, but we did give it a full service and it runs excellent. See photo on movement performance.

The 34mm steel case numbered with referencenumber "6294" and unique watchnumber "962448", dating it back to 1954. (watchnumber is vague, but present.).
Solid gold engine-turned bezel.
Gold Rolex crown with screwdown.
This crown is probably a later replacement: the original 6294 gold/steel models were equiped with a " Rolex push-pull super crown". This type of crown was a Rolex experiment, that was abandoned shortly after the introduction. It was supposed to be userfriendly, but was not reliable.

Lovely original ivory-white honeycomb dial fully signed and with date at 3. Original goldtone hands.
Original "all-red" date indication at 3. (Of course this is non-quickset).
The original steel and 14k yellow gold bracelet has been upgraded with a more robust and durable Rolex 18k and steel Oyster bracelet from 1984. It has the correct number 78353 and endlinks J 457. See photo's.

Rolex signed manual wound Precision movement cal. caliber 740.
Inside lid correctly signed with 6294 and dated "II.54" for second quarter of 1954.
Also the number "18", not refering to the gold purity 18k, but an internal code of the company that produced the cases for Rolex in these early days.
The watch is sold together with its original box, very remarkable for a watch of this age.
One photo shows the Rolex on a 18cm wrist. One spare link is provided to enable wristsize 19cm.
Size is adjustable by resetting the pinhole at the Rolex buckle.
Also screwed links can be removed or added. We advise to have this done by a quality jeweller.

A very rare and early Rolex model, that is almost never offered at auction.

Watch will be well packed and shipped insured with track and trace with DHL Express or Fedex, so with you in 3 – 4 days after you have payed to Catawiki.
NOTE: No customs import taxes for buyers from inside of the EU. Buyers from outside of the EU will need to pay customs import taxes.

PLEASE leave positive feedback when you are fully satifsied with your purchase and our service.
If for some reason, you are not satisfied with your purchase, we kindly ask you not to leave negative feedback, but to contact us through the Catawiki mailsystem, so that we can help you.

Seller's Story

Our mission is not to sell watches, but to build relationships. We strive to be your best online partner for the purchase of exclusive pre-owned wristwatches. Please read our feedback, where you can check if we succeed in our mission. Together with my wife, who has an amazing eye for detail, we run our business for many years now. Premium quality and flawless personal service are a prerequisite to be in business and that is what we are known for. On Catawiki only an extensive series of detailed photos and information about the wristwatch in question can justify an online decision by the buyer about an investment of often thousands of euros. Many of these buyers return to us for their second- or third purchase and many of them have built up their collection through our network. Our wristwatches have been fully checked for authenticity and function and preferably come with the original box, documents and information on provenance. As a result, our wristwatches retain their value and can be a good long-term investment. To make our wristwatches accessible to everyone, we offer most wristwatches without reserve. We are known for our "No Reserve" vintage Rolex auctions. Our Catawiki Rolex buyers represent countries from all over the world. As far as we can judge, the way we present our wristwatches is unique on Catawiki. It is the only way to do it right for you, the buyer. Buyers often do not realize that they pay an additional 21% custom taxes, when they buy from a seller from Turkey or Japan. As we are EU based, this extra cost is not applicable when the buyer is an EU resident.
