Corneille, Paysage, a 1943 original watercolour with pastel and ink depicting a landscape, 62 × 42 cm (framed approx. 82 × 63 cm), signed, sold with frame, provenance guaranteed by Foundation Guillaume Corneille with a certificate signed by N. (Natacha) Van Beverloo.
Description from the seller
Beautiful very early watercolor (with pastel and ink) drawing by Corneille titled 'Paysage' (Landscape) from 1943. Bring a museum piece into your home with this unique work by one of the Netherlands' greatest artists.
This artwork is called 'Paysage' (landscape); to his son Dimitri, Corneille said that he had the city of Budapest in mind when he created it. In 1947, Corneille traveled to Budapest and there produced several of his very famous early CoBrA works.
Corneille lived in Amsterdam during the war years and afterwards until about 1950, where he attended the art and craft school and the Rijksacademie (where he also met Karel Appel shortly after the war in 1945). In 1946 he had his first solo exhibition in Groningen. In 1947 Corneille traveled to Paris with Karel Appel and in 1948 the CoBrA art movement was founded.
Corneille was only 21 years old when he made this beautiful watercolor; it is rare for such an early work by one of the Netherlands' best-known artists to become available for a private collection.
The provenance of this work is guaranteed by Foundation Guillaume Corneille. And it comes with a certificate signed by Mrs N. (Natacha) Van Beverloo (Natacha Suzanne Laktionoff), widow of Corneille.
The watercolor measures 62 x 42 cm. When framed, the dimensions are about 82 cm high and 63 cm wide in the current original frame (with Art Glass) as framed by Corneille and his wife themselves. Of course our framing shop can re-frame this artwork entirely to your own specifications.
