A genuine gold-plated printed circuit board (PCB), mounted on a floating stand that mimics the texture and color of old 1990s computers.
A custom-designed PCB reinterpreting Velázquez's 1632 crucifixion. The PCB is cut to the desired shape, arms outstretched, and held in place by four numbered screws, located at the hands and feet.
The plate is coated with an ENIG finish (electroless nickel, immersion gold), meaning the visible gold is genuine gold. This process, identical to that used in high-end electronics, catches the light much like gold leaf in ancient religious paintings. It is mounted on a floating support inside a beige plastic frame, evoking a 1990s computer case. The sculpture can be placed on a shelf and also has a small mounting hole at the back for wall hanging.
It arrives in a custom ESD bag, the same type used for shipping computer components, printed with the Imbue logo on the front and the Ten Commandments written as computer code on the back. Examine the piece carefully: it contains much more than meets the eye at first glance.
Imbue was born in London on January 19, 1988. He spent his childhood in Kent County, in the southeast of Analeterre. The artist recalls always having a penchant for creation, a quest fueled by his father. Nicknamed the new Banksy, Imbue not only writes his name on walls. Provocative and perverse, the street artist hijacks advertisements or army recruitment posters and even goes so far as to place a hideous Snow White on the shelves of a Disney Store. Playing with symbols, he melts a Coca-Cola bottle into the body of the Virgin Mary, subverting religious and popular iconography to give it a new meaning. In 2008, he installed sugar-dusting dispensers displaying 'cocaine' and 'heroin' on the seafront of Brighton without concern, challenging the public and authorities about drugs found on every street corner.
