Rare mounted mountain lemming

Lemmus lemmus

Origin: Private collection, Norway 01-10-1968

Dimensions: 10x15x8 cm

This is a beautiful specimen of the mountain lemming (Lemmus lemmus), also known as the Norwegian lemming, that was prepared in the 1960s.

Details: The mountain lemming, Lemmus lemmus, is one of the most fascinating and characteristic rodents of the high north. Whereas most rodents have inconspicuous camouflage, the mountain lemming stands out with its striking, multicolored winter coat featuring a beautiful pattern of black, yellow-brown and gray.

The species originates in the icy tundras and mountain regions of Northern Europe, where it occurs exclusively in countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and Northern Russia.

These small, hardy survivors are known for their impressive population cycles and their surprisingly fierce character when defending their territory.

A unique, colorful and highly decorative piece of Arctic natural history for the collector of naturalia and curiosities!
