Twelve vintage glass Christmas ornaments from Belgium (Hemiksem), made by Ajeko, dating to circa 1940–1950, with a height of 18 cm, width 6 cm and depth 6 cm, in good condition with minor signs of age and spots.
Description from the seller
12 vintage glass Christmas decorations, including 9 from the former Belgian factory Ajeko, 1940s/1950s:
A rare ball with inscription “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night), parrot, contrabass, Santa Claus, 2 turquoises, lantern, ellipse shape and mushroom.
A large dented ball also with a glass eye, not clear if also Ajeko.
An antique running reindeer, German-made, with clip, 1920s.
A decorated candle, sometimes attributed to Japanese workmanship, some wear.
Ajeko is a famous Belgian brand of handmade glass Christmas decorations, from Hemiksem.
Founding: The factory was founded in 1938 by Alfred Jezulin (often called Alfred Jecelin or “den Tjech”).
• Name: The name Ajeko is a contraction of his initials/name (Alfred Jezulin / Kopecky).
• Golden age: In the post-World War II period the factory enjoyed its greatest success with about 90 employees. Large department stores ordered their Christmas balls and figures in large quantities.
• End of production: Production in Hemiksem stopped in 1952.
Features:
The glass eye: The most unique and distinctive hallmark of Ajeko is the handmade glass eye from which the ball hangs. This was devised during World War II as a clever solution when metal rings were scarce (where other brands used metal crowns).
• Solid glass: Ajeko ornaments are known for their thicker, robust quality glass-blown work and numbered catalog designs.
• Collections: A variety of shapes were made: from classic Christmas balls to nutcrackers, animals and figurines.
According to age, in good condition.
Recently on an online auction site Kringloop, a ball sold for 1000 euros.
