Description from the seller
This beautiful work by the Catalan artist Victorino Berbegal (born 1925) depicts the iconic coastline of the Spanish resort town Sitges, located in Catalonia just south of Barcelona.
The central building in the background is the recognizable Església de Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla (Church of Saint Bartholomew and Saint Tecla), perched on a prominent rock (known as La Punta) directly on the beach and the Mediterranean Sea. This is one of the most painted and photographed locations on the Catalan coast.
The artwork is signed lower left by Berbegal Capelo, who is known for his impressionistic coastal and harbor scenes. On the back he has noted the place and date, Sitges 1983. Berbegal also has a street named after him in Sitges.
The work is in excellent condition. Bright colors, luscious impasto. Attractive wooden frame with a white inner lining and minimal signs of wear.
